2017 in Review: A Message from the Friends

Thank you so much, Beaverton,
for making 2017 such a great year!

Dear Beaverton community,

2017 has been a year of BIG changes for the New Friends of Beaverton City Library. This year, we completed an extensive renovation of the Book Corner store, hired a new store manager, and welcomed several new members to the Board.

All of these changes have been positive, and the results have only been rewarding! This year, the Friends have donated over $50,000 to the Beaverton Library. This has only been possible with the help of our volunteers, our members, supporters, donors, and customers.

You donated over 60,000 gently used books and other items, which we sold to benefit the library. These donations have gone toward the following this year:

    • Canvas Bags
    • Book Club Books
    • Slatwall Fixtures
    • Disc Polisher
    • Subscription to BookPage
    • Tech Toys for Young Adults

Some of this money is earmarked for 2018 Library expenses that include:

    • New programmable Open/Closed Signs visible from Library parking lots
    • Table and Chairs for the Murray Scholls branch
    • Tech/coding supplies for children, including Ready Animators
    • Power Cubes (USB charging tables)
    • Media Creation Station
    • Tables for the Cathy Stanton room
    • Exterior Blade Sign for the Murray Scholls branch
    • Tables for Main Reading room
    • Bean bags for the Teen room
    • Light table and toys for the Children’s area

In addition to helping the Beaverton City Library, the Friends are also planning to make some improvements to the Book Corner store:

  • New gravel for the parking spaces
  • Removing hedge and berries for better visibility
  • Raise, move, and repaint the Book Corner store sign
  • New mats for the front deck (to prevent slipping)
  • Adding new onsite storage

We hope to make 2018 just as successful as 2017, and we invite you to join us along the way! Follow us on Facebook, become a member, or just drop by the store Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. We appreciate your support of our organization’s mission to serve the Beaverton City Library.
