Book Corner Holiday Open House Dec. 5

The New Friends of the Beaverton City Library and The Book Corner are celebrating the city’s annual tree lighting festivities with an all-day Holiday Open House and book sale Friday, December 5, 2014. All books in the store are Buy 1, Get 1 Free that day. (Free book of equal value or less; limit two paper bags of books at sale price. NFBCL member discounts not valid for this event. Discounts are for individuals only and do not apply for books to be resold.) The bookstore will feature holiday books for children, including classics such as “The Polar Express” and “The Nutcracker,” as well as holiday-themed books on food and crafts, and a wide selection of fiction and nonfiction. The store now accepts credit card payments as well as cash or checks.

The Book Corner will be open late that evening – store hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 5 — and complimentary hot cider and cookies will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to visit the store and enjoy refreshments.

This is the third year the bookstore has supported Operation Paperback: Books for Troops. Visitors are invited to join the effort by donating a paperback book and signing a card for the holiday book drive for military personnel stationed overseas. The Book Corner will match each book donation during the campaign.

The Book Corner’s Holiday Open House is sponsored by the New Friends of the Beaverton City Library, who operated the volunteer-staffed bookstore at 12470 S.W. Fifth Street, Beaverton, directly across from the City Park fountain. Sales of gently used donated books, movies (DVDs) and music (CDs) benefit Beaverton City Library programs and services.

The Book Corner and NFBCL will have a Holiday Boutique Sale the following weekend: Saturday, December 13, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Beaverton City Library Lobby, 12375 S.W. Fifth Street. The sale will feature holiday-themed books for children and adults and like-new, gift quality fiction and nonfiction (history, biography, fine arts, crafts, cooking), children’s books and DVDs and CDs. A selection of books from the online store will be offered at discounted prices for the sale. Also available: gift certificates from The Book Corner.

Library patrons and shoppers are invited to stop by the Friends’ get-acquainted table for a free bookmark and information on membership and volunteer opportunities, and to learn how shopping with Fred Meyer Community Rewards and Amazon Smile programs can earn donations to our libraries.
