Book Corner volunteers have been setting aside history-related nonfiction for February, the month that marks Oregon’s statehood birthday, African-American history month, and Presidents’ Day.
Customers will find biographies of U.S. presidents, military history, and books about Oregon in the store, all at great low prices. In addition, some of the rare and collectible books from our online store will be displayed on the fireplace mantel in the main room. An 1887 White House Cook Book contains recipes, the protocol for state dinners, and housekeeping instructions from that era. Also on display will be a two-volume set of Presidential Papers from 1897, plus vintage Oregon books.
All of the books, music CDs and DVDs (movies) come via donations from the community. Popular titles in fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books, are sold in the store. Specialty nonfiction, such as textbooks, research journals, and less-common subjects are more likely to find buyers through Amazon, as are the rare and collectible titles. The Amazon logo on the home page connects to the online inventory; books can be purchased at the store, by request.
The Book Corner and its online store are operated by the New Friends of the Beaverton City Library. Sales proceeds are donated to the library by means of a twice-yearly “wish list” of programs and equipment needs.
The Book Corner is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed Sunday and Monday). Book donations are welcome during store hours.
